An introductory lecture on the popular genre of landscape painting. Starting with painters from Italy and the Netherlands, the talk then moves closer to home and looks at East Anglians such as Cotman, Crome and the Norwich School and John Constable. The lecture also discusses how modern painters respond to and express their feelings towards the rural environment to produce abstract landscapes.
